Mark Bohrer

Technical Marketing Specialist

Convincing your customers is what I do. I've released products with sales in the millions, persuaded executives to build them in the first place, and managed engineers in a 25-year semiconductor career. I develop marketing tactics and collateral to educate, build trust - and hit your sales targets. My work will free you to do yours.

An Experienced Engineer
I always liked playing with electronics, pianos and photography. That led to technology. Creativity. And persuasive communication.

I sold cameras when I wasn't studying in high school. That showed me what got customers to buy. I earned BSEE and MSEE degrees at the University of Illinois. I also wrote lyrics and music in rock bands. It didn't make me famous, but it taught me how to convey a clear message in a few words.

Next, Silicon Valley - design engineering with a few patents and a turn at engineering management. Over 25 years, I learned to convince VPs and CEOs to sign up for new products.

I also learned to get projects done on schedule. I designed and managed chips for the semiconductor industry that sold very well, including the first transceiver for Fast Ethernet. This product delivered over $40 million in its first year of sales, and helped launch an initial public stock offering.

How did we do that?

I asked customers good questions about what the product needed beyond compliance with the standard, so we designed the right chip. Then I drove the project so it finished on time, just before approval of the Fast Ethernet standard. I made sure all the written collateral was in place for the product release, and that the product was presented in trade journals and shows.

Asking the right questions at the start, developing the right tactics and message, and delivering projects on-time will generate better results from your marketing.

With a Passion for Technology
Every product needed a spec and a datasheet, so I wrote them. I designed and managed for National Semiconductor, AMD, PMI/Analog Devices, Micro Linear and Linear Technology. While I was doing that, I helped write the Ethernet standard, IEEE 802.3.

I've suggested topics and ghost-written for PR managers, vice presidents and engineers who don't have time, in EDN, Elektronik i Norden, Portable Design, and Electronic Design.

I've also published a white paper on a simple recipe for leads and sales with technical articles.

I handle non-technical promotion, too.
I've written about the two-ton impact of hi-res digital slideshows with synchronized music, quickly assembled with the world's best image presentation software. How to use quietly reliable Leica cameras, wildlife photography, mountain travel, and wild birds for LHSA Viewfinder and Birder's World. I've also chronicled how a small environmental cleanup firm landed MCI as a client.

To Help You Get Better Results... Online or in Print
I bring a unique skillset to your marketing projects: engineering and writing experience, successful project management, and the instincts of a retail salesman. I'll use my background to help your technology firm generate a better, measurable return on your marketing tactics. I'll give you high-impact ways to inform your target audience, and invite them to talk to you. That builds your credibility as an expert - and shows them you're the best answer for their problem.
